Times Record Inquire Within columnist Ben Boulden responds to a reader question today about proceeds for the City of Fort Smith Parks and Recreation Department and its Checkmarks for Parks program.

Aaron Lee, administrative secretary in the parks department, said it has funded the $15,420 purchase of a screen for the movies in the park program.

Since instituted in 2004, Lee said Checkmarks has garnered a total of $40,412 for the department. Minus the money for the screen, she said the department is letting the contributions build up in a fund and earn interest until enough is there for other future enhancements or projects.
